I looked into the window
of a store down in the mall
It said "Baking is Our Business"
and welcomed one and all
The window was all glowing
with the "Frosty Family"
Sparkle and Dazzle and colored lights
but no nativity.
Snowflakes decked each Frosty's hat
as I watched there in the rain
A man came near the window
His face was etched in pain.
His hand reached for the window glass
as if groping in the dark
It seemed that he was looking for life,
like, even a tiny spark.
"Are you looking for Christmas?” I asked him
As I watched him blankly stare
" It's lost" he said, pointing his finger,
"No baby Jesus there!"
"They've covered up baby Jesus" he said
"and Mary and Joseph too."
"Covered them up with snowmen
made of paper and glue"
"Yeah, I'm looking for Christmas."
Then he turned and said "How about you?"
"I don't think they can cover up Jesus" I said,
"Not with all the snowmen on earth
I don't think the world can ever erase
the truth about His Birth."
"Here's a scripture from Matthew", I said,
and Luke and John and Mark
"You can't find Christmas in a store"
"Like Jesus, it lives in the heart”
”So The world may try to cover the truth
with all their tinsel and tin
but the world can't cover up Jesus”
then I looked up and saw him grin
He didn't speak, just turned away
in an instant he was gone
Left me standing in the rain
wondering what went wrong
I glanced back to the window again
and saw something there had changed
the Frosties seemed to have all been moved
and everything rearranged
In the middle of the snowmen
I am amazed to say
had come a tiny manger
with a baby in some hay
An Angel stood beside him
with Glory on his face
and the songbook in his hand
declared "Amazing Grace"
I stepped back from the window
with more than a little fear
The Angel seemed to be looking at me
I know I found Christmas this year.
