“Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her of the Lord.” Luke 1:45

Mary’s visit from the angel Gabriel in Luke chapter 2 marks the beginning of many supernatural encounters scripturally given that relate to Jesus the Messiah. Many of us have heard the story over and over, year after year. Children belonging to a wide variety of churches have taken part in Christmas nativity plays and musicals depicting the events in Luke 2. Many pastors and teachers have preached and taught on the “real” meaning of Christmas. The very idea of a young Jewish woman conceiving a child by the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit is Awesome to our finite minds.

Mary probably had a thousand questions , a thousand thoughts running through her mind! After all, she had just been visited by an Angel and told that she was going to give birth to Jesus, the “Son of the Highest”. Here she was.. a young girl engaged to be married and being told she was going to have a baby who would bring forth a never ending Kingdom.

The impact of this angelic encounter was totally power packed, totally full of truth, and deeply life changing for Mary. The angel spoke to her that “With God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 2:37)

Mary’s reply was the reply of a woman who believed with all her heart in the words the angel spoke, even though she could not understand how these things would take place. Mary embraced the call of God and replied saying “Behold the maidservant of the Lord!” Then Mary spoke three little words.

“Let it be..”

“Let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 2:38)

Mary began immediately to respond with a willing heart to the living words of the angel. She said “Yes” to God’s will. She embraced the fullness of God’s plan for her life.

It is to this type of surrender we are called! It is the heartfelt embrace of God’s vision for her life that comes off the page of Luke chapter 2 and meets us face to face.

So many in the body of Christ are looking for answers today. So many are wondering why they have not come to the fullness of God’s vision for their lives. They have a thousand questions and if they could have an encounter with Jesus I wonder if He would ask them why they chose to implement their own methods of arriving at their destinies instead of His.

Jesus has certain ways of doing things.

At the wedding at Cana Jesus did His first miracle in His earthly ministry. He turned the water into wine at this wedding and He did this miracle in a particular WAY.

It was Mary who, having noticed they were out of wine, told the servants at the wedding, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:5)

Jesus told them to fill the six water pots of stone with water and then draw some out to be given to the master of the feast. As soon as the master of the feast tasted the water turned into wine he declared it to be the “best wine” saved for last.

There was a design to the way in which Jesus did this miracle.
The water pots were to be filled with water.
Why?
Because Jesus said to fill them with water.

Then the master of the ceremony was to receive the first taste.
Why?
Because Jesus said so.

The water was turned to wine.

Mary has few words in the books of the New Testament, but the few that she spoke are great truths.

“Let it be….unto me as you have said.”
“Whatever He says to you do it.”

This is God’s blueprint for the release of destiny in each of our lives. We must accept God’s will AND God’s WAY to accomplish His will, first of all. Secondly, we must obey the directions of God and His individual roadmap for the unfolding of the vision He has ordained for each of us.

Mary was a maidservant of the Lord by the witness of her own words. She both surrendered her life and admonished others to obey God.

Her life preached volumes.
In it we see complete acceptance of God’s will and complete surrender of her own. Mary was one who realized her destiny.

We can be like her. We can realize our destinies also if we can say those three little words and mean them .

“Let it be….unto me as you have said.”
