“Man shall not live by bread alone but by EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD.” Matthew 4:4 (NKJ)

In today’s world there are so many voices speaking to us. There is the voice of television, radio, newspapers, magazines, friends and books. The airwaves are filled with words and much of the content of these words is just that…the voice of the World.

But God has given us HIS WORD…and HIS WORD is not just ANY word! HIS WORD is FULL OF POWER! We hear voices telling us we should eat this and we should not eat that. But God’s Word is LIFE GIVING!! It is what we should be filling up on..His Word of Life! The Holy Bible is not just ANY book. It is God written and God inspired and FILLED with POWER!

When Jesus was battling Satan in the story from Matthew Chapter 4, he had been fasting for forty days! That’s a lot of fasting. And it says “afterward, he was hungry.” I am sure that when Satan himself appeared to Jesus there in the wilderness Jesus would have enjoyed having some real physical bread! And the words of Satan came, ‘If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread!” What always impressed me about this passage is the fact that it was really no problem for Jesus to turn the stones to bread…if that is what His Father in Heaven had asked of him. But the question was not posed by His Father, but his arch enemy, Satan.

Jesus knew the Word of God. Jesus WAS the word of God made flesh! Jesus knew how to win over the temptor at all times. He ‘SPOKE THE WORD OF GOD”. He did not become emotional. He did not rant and rave or even tell the devil to leave. He simply “SPOKE THE WORD OF GOD”…The LIFE force, He knew, was “IN THE WORD OF GOD”. He knew of the POWER encased in that Word. He knew that the Word of God was something that Satan had NO power over! He knew that even when his flesh was weak, the Word of God IN HIM was still stronger! And so, Jesus spoke.

When Jesus speaks the Word there is power!
When Jesus speaks the Word there is healing!

Matthew 8:16 says “When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon possessed and He cast out the spirits WITH A WORD and healed ALL who were sick.”

There is POWER in the Word of God that Jesus speaks.
There is HEALING in the Word of God!
There is LIFE GIVING STRENGTH in the Word of God!

Hebrews 1:3 says, in speaking about Jesus, that He “upholds ALL THINGS by the WORD of HIS POWER!”…That is saying a lot! That means that God’s Word is so powerful ALL THINGS are upheld by it! Yes! The very Universe is UPHELD by God’s Powerful WORD! When Jesus spoke the above word to Satan He was saying that the Word of God ACTUALLY GAVE LIFE AND WE COULD LIVE ON IT…and “not just by bread alone!”

This word has carried a powerful revelation for me!

As I’ve tried to lose weight many different ways, as I’ve sought for physical healing in many different ways…the spirit of the Lord has constantly brought me back to this one verse in Matthew 4:4..

Man does not live by bread alone but by EVERY WORD that PROCEEDS from the MOUTH OF GOD.

I have said it over and over and over again…and the fullness of the impact of its meaning continues to wash over me like water! It is the power of that one statement of scripture that empowers me! When I have felt depressed, when I have wanted to “over eat”, when I have been scared, when I have felt alone…I remember that MY LIFE is not founded or exacted by the physical Earthly realm entirely, but that GOD has HIS PORTION also in my state of being and that He has created me to BE FILLED with HIS WORD that HE MIGHT GIVE ME HIS ABUNDANT LIFE! Yes, food is needed for sustenance…and the physical realm of existence is very real! We must abide in it daily and see to all the needs that exist around us! We ask God to “give us this day our daily bread”, it is true! But Jesus said, “I am come that they might HAVE LIFE and HAVE IT MORE ABUNDANTLY ! (John 10:10)

Yes, we can have a kind of life dependent only on the physical realm and the physical understanding…but why should we when we can have ABUNDANT LIFE that Jesus offers through KNOWING HIM AND HIS WORD!

As we delve into the spiritual realm, as we come closer in our relationship to Jesus Christ…even beyond our first baby steps as a born again Christian, we find HIS POWER to SUSTAIN! We find HIS ABUNDANT LIFE pouring out upon us! We find NEW JOY in Him daily!

Life in Christ Jesus is just that! LIFE!

Without Jesus Christ there is no real life! There is merely existence. Since finding Jesus , I can never again be satisfied with the physical realm only, the mundane tasks of eating, working, coming and going. The routine existence of simply going round and round is broken off through knowing HIM because there is ABUNDANT LIFE, there is HEALING, there is POWER in the Word of God!

Prayer:
Father, in Jesus name, I ask that your Word of Power would become more and more real to those who visit this page. I ask that the life giving Word would come alive RIGHT HERE on this very page for those in need of healing for whatever reason and that deeper understanding of WHO YOU ARE and WHAT YOUR WORD MEANS would be given to each of us daily, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
